Hillyard’s Tradition of Coming Together Since 1911
In its beginnings, Hillyard was a railroad boomtown filled with people who had come from across the country to work for the Great Northern Railway. Hillyard wasn’t yet part of Spokane, and many of those new residents barely knew their neighbors. So the community created the Hi-Jinx Parade as a reason to gather, celebrate, and get to know each other.
More than a century later, that’s still what Hi-Jinx is all about. Every year on the first Saturday in August, neighbors old and new come together on Market Street to celebrate Hillyard and the people who make it home.
2026 Hi-Jinx Recap
Hi-Jinx 2026 was bustling from the start. Market Street was packed for a popping parade led by Grand Marshal Kelly Hull, followed by live music, local vendors, family fun, and one especially meaningful addition:
a community-painted mural made right here in Hillyard.
Sadly, wildfire smoke cut our festival short, but not before we had a pretty great day together. As we look toward next year, we’re especially grateful Hi-Jinx can continue to be a place for neighbors to gather, celebrate, and connect on the anniversary of the fires that impacted so many across our community.
